When Does Windshield Replacement Require ADAS Calibration?
Many newer vehicles use a forward-facing camera mounted near the windshield to support driver-assistance features. Replacing the windshield can change the camera’s relationship to the road, so the vehicle manufacturer may require calibration after installation.
What ADAS calibration does
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems may support lane-departure warnings, lane-keeping assistance, forward-collision alerts, automatic emergency braking, traffic-sign recognition, or adaptive cruise control. Calibration helps the system interpret the camera’s position and view according to the vehicle manufacturer’s procedure.
When calibration may be required
The forward-facing camera is removed, disconnected, or disturbed during windshield replacement.
The replacement glass, mounting bracket, or camera position differs from the prior installation.
The manufacturer’s repair procedure requires calibration after glass replacement.
The vehicle displays a camera, safety-system, or driver-assistance warning.
Suspension, alignment, collision, or ride-height changes affect the system’s reference points.
Static, dynamic, or both
Some vehicles require a static calibration with targets positioned at measured distances. Others require a dynamic calibration while the vehicle is driven under specified road and weather conditions. Certain models require both. The correct method depends on the exact year, make, model, trim, equipment, and manufacturer procedure.
Why the VIN matters
Two vehicles that look identical can use different windshields, camera brackets, sensors, heating elements, acoustic layers, or head-up-display features. Supplying the VIN helps Liberty Automotive Glass identify the correct glass and determine whether ADAS calibration should be included in the quote.
Liberty Automotive Glass provides mobile windshield replacement across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach. Calibration pricing varies by vehicle and required procedure, and it is quoted separately when applicable.
